Before you begin contouring, make sure your face is clean and you've applied your foundation and concealer as desired. Contouring typically comes after these steps. Here's what to do:

1. Apply Foundation: Start with your usual foundation to create a smooth and even canvas for contouring. Blend it well, ensuring there are no harsh lines.

2. Conceal Under the Eyes: Use a concealer to cover any blemishes or dark circles under your eyes. This helps brighten the under-eye area, which is an essential part of contouring.

Contouring involves using both darker and lighter shades to create depth and definition on your face. Follow these steps to contour effectively:​

1. Identify Key Areas: The key areas to contour include your cheekbones, jawline, temples, and the sides of your nose. To locate your cheekbones, make a "fish face" by sucking in your cheeks slightly. This helps you find the hollows where you'll apply the contour.

2. Apply the Contour: Use a makeup brush or sponge to apply the contour product to the areas you've identified. Apply it in a thin line along your cheekbones, along your jawline, and on the sides of your nose. Blend the contour well to avoid harsh lines, using a blending brush, sponge, or your fingertips.

Highlighting is the complementary step to contouring. It adds brightness and contrast to your face. Follow these steps for highlighting:

1. Highlight Key Areas: The areas to highlight include the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, your brow bone, and the cupid's bow (the area above your upper lip).

2. Apply the Highlighter: Using a makeup brush or your fingertip, gently apply the highlighter to the chosen areas. Be careful not to overdo it—a little goes a long way. Blend the highlighter into your skin for a seamless finish.
